The recent controversy surrounding a Blizzard game master (GM) using their abilities to instantly kill bosses in World of Warcraft has led to their termination. This incident came to light when a Reddit user shared combat logs showing a boss dying with almost full health due to a GM's intervention.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the GM had used their powers during a Mythic+ dungeon run for friends. One player admitted on a Twitch stream to asking their GM friend for help, saying, "I go to my GM friend and I'm like bro please can you do me a solid? This thing has 20 million [health] bro, can you please just one-shot it?"

Blizzard's Response

Blizzard has stated that the GM's actions were a violation of the company's Code of Conduct. Community manager Randy "Kaivax" Jordan confirmed in a forum post that this was an isolated incident involving a single employee. He emphasized that the use of developer tools is strictly monitored and logged to prevent misuse.

Despite concerns from the community about potential widespread cheating, Blizzard reassured players that this was not a common practice among GMs. They also mentioned that action would be taken against the player accounts involved in this incident.

Impact on the Community

The Mythic+ dungeon run in question has since been disqualified by ranking site Raider.io, although players can still view the details of the run here.

This incident has sparked discussions about the role of GMs in the game, as many players were surprised to learn that GMs still exist in a capacity that allows them to intervene in live gameplay.
