OtherSide Entertainment has announced that their stealth game, Thick As Thieves, will not be receiving any further content updates. The game, which launched in May, has faced significant challenges, including a lack of content and a small player base.

Thick As Thieves was criticized for feeling incomplete at launch, with only two maps and a campaign that felt thin despite offering co-op and solo play. Players expressed frustrations over the time-limit system and the absence of features like rebindable keys. Although the first post-launch update introduced rebindable keys, it wasn't enough to salvage the game's reception.

The situation worsened for OtherSide as they faced layoffs, leaving the studio with fewer than 10 employees. Game director Jeff Hickman shared his thoughts on the matter, stating, "only a very small team remains" and confirming that ongoing development for additional content is no longer viable. He added, "To be frank, this is not the outcome that any of us want, but we're facing the reality that ongoing development of extra content, modes and systems is not a viable path."

Despite the cancellation of further updates, OtherSide and publisher Megabit are committed to keeping Thick As Thieves playable. Hickman explained that they are working on a new version of the game that will utilize Peer to Peer servers for co-op play, ensuring that gameplay remains unchanged while eliminating the need for dedicated cloud servers. This change will allow players to continue enjoying the game with friends, and solo play will remain unaffected. Once this transition is complete, Megabit will handle ongoing support for the game.

Looking back, some speculate that the game's initial price of $5 may have contributed to its struggles, giving an impression of desperation and affecting its perceived value. However, it’s possible that Thick As Thieves would have had a limited audience regardless of its pricing or initial concept as a PvPvE game.
